The NPS will host a public meeting from 5 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at the Big Cypress Swamp Welcome Center, 33000 Tamiami Trail East, Ochopee, Florida. The meeting will provide an opportunity for you to review the draft alternatives and provide comments and suggestions on changes prior to the preparation of a final EA. Information will be provided regarding the current status of this effort, and NPS staff will be available to answer questions. The meeting will be held in an “open house”
format. There will be a short introductory presentation at the beginning of the meeting, but you are invited to visit at any point during the scheduled time to review materials and provide comment.
We invite your comments regarding potential issues and concerns that should be considered during the planning process. You can provide comments at the meeting, by mail, or on-line. Before including an address, phone number, email address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, you should be aware that your entire comment, including your personal identifying information, may be made publicly available at any time. While you can ask us in your comment to withhold your personal identifying information from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.
Comments by mail may be sent to Superintendent, Big Cypress National Preserve, 33100 Tamiami Trail East, Ochopee, Florida 34141-1000. Comments may also be submitted on-line.

On 06/20/2012 MrSIG, WhiteShepard and Reddz rode out to the National Park Service Meeting in the Everglades. There was a great turn out from multiple Organizations and Clubs. The only disappointing part about the meeting was that Black Sheep 4x4s was the ONLY jeep/Off road club in the entire State of Florida to attend the meeting.
This shows the NPS our seriousness about the area and how we want to conserve, respect and still have the ability to enjoy what nature has given us. Unfortunately there are other clubs in the State that go into the protected area and DO NOT follow the rules, which in turn affects our ability to enter and use the Preserve. The NPS is taking comments up until July 5th, 2012 about their proposed "NEW" safety improvements. These improvements were presented at last nights meeting. The NPS wants to improve turning lanes along Tamiami Trail (which happened to be their last item to be addressed in their proposal). They are also proposing to "enhance" certain entrances to parking areas, which caused a large problem to the actual users of the areas. The NPS's design ideas are being developed by people who really don't use the preserve like the rest of us, so their approach could and should be revised to reflect the needs and wants of the people/individuals/clubs that physically use the preserve.
All and any comments are well accepted and needed as we don't have much time to make a difference. To add a comment.
